4 & 5 Axis Tool Orientation Preview

Good news! In preparation for making 5 axis machining available in the future, we’ve added the ability to turn on Tool Orientation preview functionality for 4 and 5 axis positional programming.

To try it out, make sure you have CAM checked in the preview section of your preferences. Once checked and applied, the Tool Orientation check box will appear. Keep in mind, this is still preview functionality, a time may come where additional costs will be associated with using this permanently. We’re really looking forward to hearing your thoughts, so feel free to drop a note in the comments section below after you’ve had a chance to explore it a bit.

Material-Specific Tools Added

We’ve added some new material-specific tools to the sample library. These materials include Imperial and metric versions of aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, high+low carbon steel, stainless steel, and titanium. Awww yeah. You can thank CJ, our machining expert at Pier 9, for creating the tools. He’s clearly excited.

Language specific Tooltips fixed

There was a regression issue where Chinese and Japanese tooltips for CAM parameters were shown as gibberish. Not even Klingons can read it. Sorry about that – this is now fixed.

Autodesk Exchange Apps renamed to Fusion 360 App Store

No one goes to an app store to “exchange” apps, so we renamed the Autodesk Exchange Apps to the Autodesk App Store, and changed the name of how you access the Fusion specific page to the  Fusion 360 App Store.

It’s definitely worth a look; there are some really cool apps developed by users just like you. Some are free and some are for a small fee. If you’d like to create and submit your own app to the store, simply sign-in with your Autodesk ID and follow the instructions of how to make your app available for the community to enjoy.

Fusion 360 mobile App on iOS updated

We also updated the Fusion mobile app yesterday to version 1.9. This update includes improvements in 5 areas:

  • You can now measure area and angle between points in your 2D drawings of your 3D Fusion designs.
  • Change the focal length (in perspective view) by swiping 3 fingers up and down your screen.
  • Rotate the animation for 2 finger gestures.
  • Animations no longer play automatically when they are loaded, and once it is playing, you can pause it by just tapping the screen.
  • We’ve also updated the animation environment and lighting so that it is consistent with the model viewer environment. Thanks! Rosanna D, VTN
